"Varies by playing style"
These shoulder pads will work for some, but not for others. They have great flexibility, while retaining a decent amount of protection. The flexibility is due mostly to how the shoulder caps are set up so they float slightly above your shoulder, making it so they only make contact if you fully extend your arms up. Very flexible in the arms for this risen shoulder cap technique. The protection barely received a decent. This is where many of you will turn away. Although they are perfect for me, I can deal with pain. The shoulder caps have pretty good hard plastic in them, so shoulders are definitely not a problem unless you demand a huge amount of shoulder protection for medical reasons. The chest and sternum protection are the main problems with this pad. There is little more then a paper thin layer of foam, then some lightweight plastic over the top to protect your sternum. This is alright for me, because pain is lost during the game, But to those of you who take a lot of hits, or are more sensitive to pain, you should definitely look into something with some more sternum/rib protection, or be extremely cautious while using these. I loved them, But flexibility is definitely higher on my list of priorities then protection. I would recommend this to a fast attackman who rarely gets hard hits, or any middies/defenders looking for lightweight pads and a maximum in mobility. |

"Tough, but stiff"
I like the hypers because they really do stop most of the hits you take from hurting. The only problem I had was that I would put this in my bag and they would keep their shape. I'm hoping when they break in better this will stop and I will have some more room in my bag, but that's the only problem I had. |
