"No protection"
I bought this because I hated the bulky Warrior MPG 5.0. While it deffinitly provides great movement and is extremely lightweight, I found out that the protection is basically nonexistant. I can feel every shot. Better than the bulkier chest pads, but I think I'll buy a Gladiator in the near future.
"Not bad, better out there"
Alright, I would recommend this for a beginner goalie if you do not wear any other pads with it. I wear the usual goalie gear; chest pad, helmet w/ throat guard, gloves, and cup, and I have to tell you this thing just doesn't cut it. I was hit multiple times in the gut, which was not protected because the pad is so short without belly guards. Also, my shoulder was dislocated a few times when a decent shot hit my shoulder cap. In other words - the shoulder protection is not there. There really is almost nothing to protect your shoulders. The last problem I noticed in the season I used this pad was the overall padding in the chest was weak. I am a varsity goalie and when a full-speed shot around 100 mph would hit the pad, I could feel a good amount of the force. The ability to move wasn't bad, probably because of the lack of some important pads. If you wear more padding in the areas I described above, are not a high school goalie (won't have 100 mph shots coming at you), and don't have more money for a better pad, then this thing is a pretty good bang for your buck.
"for starters"
its ok, not the best, not worse. For beginner it's good, because you have the protection you need, no more, but you still have the opportunity of free movement. What could be better? an addition like shouldercaps, I think, but you know, if you are fast, you need no more cover on shoulders, legs, etc. because it hurts you if you want to make a fast and wide movement . . . still one for the starters!
